Happy International Women’s Day! I just wanted to do a fairly quick shout out post to some important women in my life, and maybe a little bit about why they stand out to me!
Before I do that I just want to give props to all of the single mom’s out there. I know you don’t get the same recognition as I do as a single dad, which is complete bullshit in my opinion. Anyone who can raise kids by themselves is a hero in my eyes.
First off my good friend Kim, ten years ago we may have dated, but I’m glad we’re such good friends still these days! You’ve been to hell and back and are still raising three amazing children through everything. I’m proud of you and proud to be your friend.
My sisters, Amy and Ashley. Seriously proud of the women you two are turning out to be. Ashley, you recently joked that I love being a big brother, but I really do. You guys have always made it an easy thing to enjoy! Keep going the way you are going, you’re both amazing.
Meagan! You’re the best sounding board anyone could ask for, I feel like I can talk about anything without feeling stupid (even if I feel like the topic is stupid in the first place). I’m glad we can talk about everything and anything. I know I’ll never be judged for any insecurities I have and I can be open and transparent in any situation with you.
The mother to my daughter, Taiya. It’s hard to believe we’ve been apart for more of Teagan’s life than we were together for (crazy to think about, isn’t it?)! It’s also hard to believe how well we get along and don’t fight about things considering how it was the first three years we were apart. I was counting down the days until Teagan turned eighteen so I wouldn’t have to interact with you, haha. Now I’m glad we can talk, and be friends. I’m glad you are Teagan’s mom, and I know she loves you very much and you love her the same. You are a great mother, I know you’ve had moments with making the choice to let Teagan live we full time where you may not feel like you are, but you really are.
Next would be Andrea, ever since we met I’ve felt like I’ve known you my entire life. It never really felt like I was really getting to know you, more like I was catching up with someone I had known my whole life. I’m glad I met you, I could list more and more here but I definitely just wrote an entire post about you and don’t think I need to repeat everything. You’re an amazing person and mother, and I know you’re strong enough to get through everything you are going through. You never fail to put a smile on my face!
Of course I have to mention my Little Bug, Teagan. She’s on her way to being an amazing woman herself. I can’t put in to words how proud of her I am. She finds new ways to impress me almost every single day! I look forward to being here every step of the way, picking you up when you fall but allowing you to make your choices as my mom did for me.
I know the last post you were mentioned in was a father’s day post, but I can’t imagine my mom having ever found someone as amazing as you Helene. You’re truly an amazing parent and grandparent, even if you never intended to be! You are a great person, and another person I know I could go to about anything. I remember getting jumped at the school in Black Mountain in high school, and even though I didn’t even actually get hit all you wanted to do was find them and kick their asses, haha. I’m so happy you are part of our family, and I look forward to you continuing to be forever :).
Last but definitely not least is my mom. Everyone says they have the best mom you could ask for, but I honestly wouldn’t change a single thing about mine. My mom is the most amazing woman and PERSON I have ever met. She raised us through more than most people could handle. I can’t imagine growing up and being raised by anyone else. What you did as a single mom is absolutely amazing, and is the bar I set for myself with Teagan. If I can do half the job you did I will consider that a success as a parent. I honestly have no words for how much I love you, and how much you mean to me. I love you so much.
I love all of you, you’re all amazing women. I could mention more and more but I wanted to specifically single out all of you. My life wouldn’t be what it is without you in it.
